Chinese Character Worksheet Generator
Type any Chinese characters and get a printable practice sheet: authentic tian zi ge writing grids, tracing guides in a school-style kai font, and an optional pinyin row. Works for Simplified and Traditional. Print to A4 or save as PDF.
How the grids work
Tian zi ge (田字格) is the standard writing grid used in Chinese schools: dashed guides split each square into four quadrants so you can place radicals and balance proportions. Mi zi ge (米字格) adds diagonals for stroke-angle control. Tracing starts dark and fades out — copy the example, trace the light glyphs, then write on your own.
FAQ
What is a tian zi ge (田字格) grid?
The standard Chinese writing grid: a square divided into four quadrants by dashed guides, named after the character 田. It helps you place radicals and keep proportions balanced. Mi zi ge (米字格) adds diagonal guides for finer control.
How do I type pinyin tone marks?
Type tone numbers and they convert automatically: ni3 → nǐ, hao3 → hǎo, nv3 → nǚ, ma5 → ma (neutral). You can also paste pinyin with tone marks directly. One syllable per character, separated by spaces.
Simplified or Traditional?
Both. The script toggle switches the practice font between Simplified and Traditional kai-style (楷体/楷體) — the handwriting model taught in schools in China and Taiwan. Type the characters in the script you are learning.
How do I save it as a PDF?
Click Print, then choose “Save as PDF” as the destination in your browser's print dialog. A4 or US Letter both work, portrait orientation.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The worksheet is generated entirely in your browser — the characters you type never leave your device.
